A new study has shown (drumroll) that Facebook continues to be the most popular platform in Australia – by a social mile.
Top dog
The Australian Digital Market Report from GlobalWebIndex reveals that four of the five most popular apps in Australia are owned by Facebook.
The most popular is Facebook's flagship app, which was used in the past month by 54% of respondents.
Coming in second place is YouTube, with a 43% uptake.
Making up the rest of the top five are Facebook properties Messenger (42%), WhatsApp (19%), and Instagram (17%).
Mobile first
However engagement might only tell half the story. WhatsApp has more users than Messenger, thought it trails far behind Facebook's favourite messaging app.
Something WhatsApp is looking to address, with a recent update for desktop users.
Snappy time
While Facebook might rule mobile, it's being challenged by a rampaging Snapchat.
Snapchat came in at sixth position, followed by Twitter, Google+, Skype, and LinkedIn.
NZ numbers
Across the ditch, Facebook is just as popular.
The platform sees 2.5 million monthly visits from Kiwis, and 1.6 million access Facebook on mobile daily.
Interestingly, 85% of students and 82% of mums are on Facebook.
